ALL THAT IS NECESSARY FOR THE TRIUMPH OF EVIL IS THAT GOOD MEN DO NOTHING.

This is the Beginning

This is the beginning. It is not the end. This is that very first step on the road to annihilation, but the road should be long and winding. This is not the yellow brick road.

I am RayRay. I am a very opinionated person cursed with logic and reason. I am not easily swayed by anecdotal evidence. I believe in science and adherence to the law.

I have begun this blog like any other person who has begun a blog: to maybe, possibly, get my opinion out, and in doing so, perhaps to do my slim part to right the wrongs of our country and our world.

Gentle reader, if I have any readers, ever, and at this point, since this is the beginning, I know I have no readers, I can promise you this: I will do my best to give you my opinion. I will do my best to fight my small fight for what I feel is truth, justice and the American way. I will call a spade a spade, and a douche a douche. I will not be fair - life isn't fair - but I will complain when others are not fair. Tough - this is MY soapbox.

Be advised that I will be tenacious at time. When I bring the full bore of my ire, it's big bore ire. Get me?

This is a blog about politics, law and society. For me politics is left of center. For me law is what separates us from animals [among a few other things, like fire and opposable thumbs]. For me society should be open and unfettered, and mostly minding its own business. But I also look out for the little guy.

I fully intend to use this soapbox to call out injustice, like the proverbial hammer in the morning.

I believe in few things. One of them is the Constitution with its glorious Bill of Rights. And when speaking of those Rights, I like them all. I know, I know, I said I was a little left of center. But that's because the right has descended, in my brief existence, in the side of mean and greed, with a healthy dollop of self righteous churchiness. I like science, and the right has abandoned it. Too bad, so sad.

Back to Rights: those are what separated us from the Bad Guys of my childhood - the Soviets; and are also what separates us from the present slot of Bad Guys, be they of North Korean, Iranian, or Libyan origin. I love each and every one of those ten original Rights, and cherish each one. I don't just like the First [speech, press and religion] or the Fourth [unreasonable search and seizure] or the Eighth [cruel and unusual punishment] or the Second [bear arms]. I don't fetishize one or another. The Bill of Rights is a beautiful, seamless garment, needing ALL of the rights therein to make something worthwhile.

And boy, do I detest the numbnuts out there who like to choose one or the other. Like my good pals at the National Rifle Association. I do love that gang, and at times they do something good. But they have made such a fetish out of the Second Amendment that they lost the forest while looking at some pretty leaves. In their unalterable course to seek the most gun-friendly politicians, they forgot about a few of those other Rights. They found good American folk who love the Second Amendment, but not the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth or Eighth. Well, shucks, that just isn't good enough for me.

And ya know, there are some other people out there, Like Mayor Mike Bloomberg, good people, people that do love the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Amendments to the Constitution who just don't feel that way when it comes to the Second or the First. Well, golly, that isn't very good either.

So, since this is the beginning, I am going to leave it off for now. I just wanted to break the ice a bit. I just wanted to get the lay of the land. And I wanted to introduce myself.

In the future, I may not be so nice. But, it's Friday, and I have had a Hell of a week.

  1. Welcome to the blogosphere, Ray! I am your first official follower. I'll be looking forward to your eloquent rants. Does this mean no more articles for me about aliens and supernatural beings?
